Chapter: The statement of Allāh عزوجل: "And indeed We sent Nūḥ (Noah) to his people …"
Hadeeth: Narrated Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه: We were in the company of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم at a banquet and a cooked (mutton) forearm was put before him, and he used to like it. He ate a morsel of it and said, "I will be the chief of all people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know how Allāh will gather all the first and the last (people) in one level ground, where an observer will be able to see (all) of them and they will be able to hear the announcer, and the sun will come near to them. Then some people will say: Don't you see, in what condition you are and the state to which you have reached? Why don't you look for a person who can intercede for you with you Lord? Some people will say: Appeal to your father, Ādam. They will go to him and say, 'O Ādam! You are the father of all mankind, and Allāh created you with His Own Hands, and breathed into you the Spirit[1] which He created for you and ordered the angels to prostrate for you so they did, and made you live in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Don't you see in what (miserable) state we are, and to what condition we have reached?' On that Ādam will reply, 'My Lord has become angry as He has never become before and will never become thereafter; (besides), He forbade me (to eat from) the tree, but I disobeyed (Him), Myself! Myself! Go to somebody else; go to Nūḥ (Noah).' They will go to Nūḥ and say; 'O Nūḥ! You are the first amongst the Messengers of Allāh to the people of the earth, and Allāh named you a thankful slave. Don't you see in what a (miserable) state we are and to what condition we have reached? Will you not intercede for us with you Lord? Nūḥ will reply. 'Today my Lord has become angry and will never become thereafter. Myself! Myself! Go to the Prophet (Muḥammad صلى الله عليه و سلم!)'. The people will come to me, and I will prostrate myself underneath Allāh's Throne. Then I will be addressed: 'O Muḥammad! Raise your head; intercede, for your intercession will be accepted, and ask (for anything), for you will be given.'"

Hadeeth: It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbâs said: "A man from among the Anṣâr accepted Islam, then he apostatized and went back to Shirk. Then he regretted that, and sent word to his people (saying): 'Ask the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم, is there any repentance for me?' His people came to the Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم and said: 'So and so regrets (what he did), and he has told us to ask you if there is any repentance for him?' Then the Verses: 'How shall Allâh guide a people who disbelieved after their Belief up to His saying: Verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful[2]' was revealed. [1] Rûh-ullâh (روح الله): According to the early religious scholars from among the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and their students and the Mujtahidûn, there is a rule to distinguish between the two nouns in the genitive construction:
(A) When one of the two nouns is Allâh, and the other is a person or a thing, e.g., (i) Allâh's House (Bait-ullâh بيت الله), (ii) Allâh's Messenger; (iii) Allâh's slave ('Abdullah عبدالله); (iv) Allâh's spirit (Rûh-ullâh روح الله) etc.
The rule of the above words is that the second noun, e.g., House, Messenger, slave, spirit, etc. is created by Allâh and is honourable with Him and similarly Allâh's spirit may be understood as the spirit of Allâh, in fact it is a soul created by Allâh, i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), and it was His Word: "Be!" – and he was created (like the creation of Adam).
(B) But when one of the two is Allâh and the second is neither a person nor a thing, then it is not a created thing but is a quality of Allâh, e.g., (i) Allâh's Knowledge ('Ilmullâhعلم الله ); (ii) Allâh's Life (Hayatullâh حياة الله); (iii) Allâh's Statement (Kalâmullâh كلام الله); (iv) Allâh's Self (Dhâtullâh ذات الله) etc.
[2] Âl 'Imrân 3:86-89
[3] Al-Fara': This refers to pre-Islamic sacrifices that were common in Arabia, and may mean one of the three things: (i) the first offspring of camels or sheep, which the people used to sacrifice to their idols; (ii) a sacrifice offered when one's herd of camels reached the number one wanted; (iii) a meal given on the occasion of the birth of camels.
[4] 'Atîrah: A sacrifice which the people of pre-Islamic Arabia used to offer to their idols during the month of Rajab.
