Diet For Cough Treatment And Foods To Cure
Cough is a condition which is often associated with respiratory tract infections. Cough results in the production of phlegm. While there are a host of causative factors responsible for cough, here are some simple dietary measures that can be beneficial in the treatment and management of cough.
When you are suffering from a cough, certain foods can aggravate the problem or increase the possibility of starting you on a coughing fit. You may need to avoid some types of food as well as increase your intake of some food types that may help increase your immunity to cough causing illnesses.

Try to increase your intake of fluids to help with the expectoration of phlegm and sputum. One of the more well-known fluids that can help a person with a cough is a clear broth made with vegetables or clear chicken soup.
Increase your intake of vitamin-C-laden foods. Fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables are a good example of such foods. Increase the intake of citrus fruits like lemon, lime and oranges
Drinking orange juice and other fresh fruit juices can also help with a cough. Alternate the drinking of fruit juices with lemon water or pure clean water.

Try to avoid foods that can aggravate the healing process of your cough. Included in the list of foods to avoid are processed foods, cold foods like ice cream, sweet food and sugary foods, soft drinks, and things made with white flour.
Also, try to avoid eating too much red meat, sour foods like pickles, and caffeinated drinks.
Drink a glass of warm milk with a teaspoon of honey. Honey is a natural expectorant and helps in eliminating excess of mucus accumulated in the chest.
Stop smoking. Smoking is responsible for irritation of the mucosa of the respiratory tract and in turn results in the production of excess of phlegm. Also limit the intake of alcohol.
Diet And Foods To Cure Cough
Here is some dietary advice which can help in eliminating cough,
Rich intake of Vitamin A (animal foods like liver, egg yolk, and butter), Vitamin B (plants such as carrots, purslane, and spinach) and Vitamin E (apples, asparagus, and avocado) is beneficial in the treatment of cough.
Healthy immune system is must in preventing cough and the same can be achieved with the intake of folate (dark green leafy vegetables, cabbages) or Vitamin B.
Intake of hot milk mixed with honey or ginger enhances body's defense system against flu and bacteria..
Avoid fried foods. Fried and oily foods tend to increase the natural production of sputum in the chest.
In addition to the dietary measures, hot fomentation on the chest, helps improve circulation of blood to the lungs and hastens the elimination of accumulated mucus. In addition, steam inhalation is also considered to be beneficial, as it loosens the mucosa and helps eliminate phlegm. Homeopathic drugs like Causticum and Drosera are considered useful in the management of cough with and without phlegm.
