Older people absent in post-2015 recommendations

Ageing and older people are almost completely absent from the UN High-level Panel's post-2015 report setting out recommendations for a new global development agenda.

The central role of social protection in reducing poverty is also underplayed. Read HelpAge's response.

Data revolution to tackle inequality

New research reveals how – with a few simple adjustments – standard international household surveys could give a true picture of life for millions of vulnerable people, including older people who are often missing from these surveys.

UN to meet on older people's rights

The UN Open-ended Working Group on Ageing will meet on 12-15 August to discuss the main elements of a new international legal instrument on older people's rights. Read HelpAge's submission identifying five priorities.

A step towards social security in Jamaica

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has recommended that the Government of Jamaica works towards universal social security coverage, giving priority to disadvantaged groups including older people.

The recommendations can be found in the committee's concluding observations at its 50th session.

G8 nutrition talks must not neglect older people

All over the world, older people are often child carers, income providers and educators so it is crucial their right to proper nutrition is recognised by governments, donors and humanitarian agencies.
