Unidentified gunmen shot dead another senior journalist in restive tribal region on Wednesday.

According to family members, Malik Mumtaz, was shot dead Wednesday in his home town of Miranshah. Mumtaz was returning home when the gunmen fired at his vehicle, killing him on the spot.

Malik Mumtaz was working for Pakistan's largest independent News Agency – News Network International (NNI) since 1992, Geo television and Jang group of newspapers in North Waziristan tribal region. He was also filing reports for Pashto-language Khyber television.

Reports said that he had been receiving threats. No group claimed responsibility yet and the family said that they do not have personal enmity with anyone.

His car came under attack at Chashma bridge when he was proceeding to Miranshah after offering condolence at a village in the vicinity of the town.

He was elected as President of Miranshah press club a few days back.

Malik Mumtaz graduated from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan.

The tribal regions are the world's more dangerous place for journalists and dozens have been killed in line with their duties, according to reports.

Many tribal journalists have been shifted to other areas over security concerns.

All journalists' alongwith Tribal Union of Journalists strongly condemned the brutal murder of Mumtaz and demanded the local authorities to investigate the incident.

They also demanded the government to nab the elements behind the killing of journalists.

The victim is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
